April 2, 2006 - Longboat Key, FL

Mike picked us up at Coquina Beach, and drove us back to his place. We than meet up with Mike’s mom Rose, whose home is a short walk from Mikes and over looks the Gulf of Mexico. Today, we spent the whole day with them out on “The Boat”.

This is a typical day for both of them. They spend at least 3 days a week out on the boat. We boated all over the Gulf. It was very surprising to John and I in how shoal the waters are.

I don’t think we got any deeper than 20’ which was in the channels. You definitely have to pay attention to the markers or you just might wind up on a sandbar. We dropped anchor close to Sarasota. I think our depth was 3’, which was great for swimming. Mike cleaned under his boat, while John and I played in the water and Rosie hung out on the boat.

After we ate lunch, we headed out for some more boating. Sarasota is a very rich community. They have condo’s starting from 1.5 million. So, you can image how much houses go for here. There are several pro athletes, actors’, actresses who live in Sarasota.

We stopped and had drinks at a Tiki Bar in Sarasota.

We ended our day by having dinner at Old Salty Dog in Sarasota and taking a very casual tour through a narrow channel back to the dock. Which is lined with very expensive home on one side and mangrove tree’s on the other.
We give great thanks to Mike, Rose, Klaus and Bobbi for making this part of our trip very memorable.
