Today we drove to Ft. Bragg, NC where Johnny received his training in the 3rd Special Forces in 1966 . Johnny served in the Army for 3 years and was assigned to the 5th Special Forces B Team as a Radio Operator and Mortar crewman in Vietnam. Security was tight and being a civilian with a travel trailer made it more difficult for us to enter the base. But, with Johnny mentioning his service time at the base, and a quick inspection of Taylor and Red, we were able to enter the base. The main reason for getting on base, was to get some souvenirs. We toured the Special Forces museum, and tried to get into the PX military store. You can not access the PX store without a military ID. But, they do have Mini Mall, were you can go and buy clothes and souvenirs, which is what we did. Johnny was looking for the Yellow Ribbon w/ Special Force emblem for his truck, which they were out of stock. So we bought other souvenirs instead. Outside the mini mall was a place called, PJ Mac’s Bar-B-Que Shack, were we bought 2 hot dogs for lunch and a slab of pork ribs for dinner and boy were they yummy.
