We have arrived in Bradenton, FL., which is very close to Longboat Key. We will be visiting John’s friend, Mike Fish, who has made Longboat Key his retirement home. Mike and John were hired together in a group of 20 guys in 1976.
After we settled Taylor into his new spot at the Encore RV Park, Mike meet us with his boat “The Boat” at Coquina Beach.

Mike then surprised us by taking us out to his friend’s Klauss & Bobbi’s 28’ Sailboat. We then dropped anchor and jumped onto the sailboat and sailed away. They catered us with a smorgasbord of goodies along with the Cupertino Firehouse Salsa.
We had great conversation while enjoying the smooth sailing on the Gulf of Mexico. Klauss was trolling with 2 fishing line off the back of the sailboat. Mike just about jumped off the boat when he discovered one of the lines had a fish. With the help of Klauss, and after a long fight with the fish, Mike reeled in a 20” Mackerel.
Not even 10 minutes later, the line hits again, with a BIGGER Mackerel, this is the fish that got away, it much have been at least 25”.

I happened to be watching the other line and wouldn’t ya know it, I have a fish. Again, with the help of Klauss, I reeled in at 28” Mackerel.
My holy Mackerel
It was nice to provide dinner for Klauss and Bobbi who stayed on there boat overnight. We sailed back to “The Boat” were we left Klaus and Bobbi to sail away into the sunset.
Mike took us by boat, to his home on Longboat Key, were he has his own dock.
Hillbilly Mike
Mike lives at the narrowest point of Longboat Key. OK, ladies, you need an interior decorator, this is the man. Mike has always had the knack for decorating and what a job he has done on his place. After setting our schedule for the next day, Mike drove us back to Coquina Beach.
