March 21, 2006 - Downtown San Antonio

First day of Spring and it was chilly in the morning and warmed up nicely in the afternoon. We got on the #3 Express bus and headed for downtown. Being the tourists that we are, we stopped off at the visitor’s information center to get information about San Antonio. The two things we really wanted to do were the Riverwalk and visit The Alamo. We took a river barge around the River Walk area. Our barge captain, Anita, was very knowledgeable of the history of the area. Too much history to put in this blog.

Anita told us there are several restaurant along the River Walk, you can have your choice of Italian/Mexican, Chinese/Mexican, French/Mexican, German/Mexican and of course here favorite Mexican/Mexican. She also told us the BEST Mexican food was at her house, but she never offered to let us know where she lived. We asked her what her favorite restaurant was on the River Walk, she suggested Casa Rio. We took her up on her suggestion to have lunch there. Casa Rio was the first restaurant built on the River Walk, established in 1946. As you have probably guessed, it’s Mexican Cuisine. We were able to get a table right next to the river. The food was excellent, the serve was great and the cost was very reasonable.

After visiting The Alamo and walking to nearby points of interest, it was time to catch the bus back to Red and Taylor.
